Prof. K. Sankaranarayanasamy

Prof. K. Sankaranarayanasamy completed his doctorate in the area of gear manufacturing from IIT Madras, post graduation from department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Madras and bachelor degree with Honours from PSG College of Technology. He started his career as a deputy engineer at Bharath Electronics limited, Bangalore in the year 1983. He is having 31 years of teaching experience including post graduate teaching and research. He entered teaching profession as a lecturer at prestigious REC Tiruchy, now known as NIT Tiruchy in the year 1989 and served as a professor in the department of mechanical engineering, NITT from May 2000 to March2018. He headed the department of mechanical engineering of NITT six years in two spells since 2000. He is currently the director of NIT Puducherry since April 2018.

Prof. K.Sankaranarayanasamy's area of interest lies in design and manufacturing processes and Industrial Safety and he has more than 90 publications in international journals, 30 research publications in international conferences of high repute. He has been involved in the design and analysis of pressure vessels, vibration analysis, industrial safety and natural fiber composites. He has vast experience in power plants and has successfully completed 8 major R&D projects funded by BHEL Trichy, NLC Neyveli, MHRD and DST. He has guided around 18 PhD scholars out of which 16 scholars have been awarded PhD.

Prof. KSN works enthusiastically for national professional organizations and he is a life-member of various organizations such as Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Society of Technical Education, Indian Welding Society and a member of Society of Automotive Engineers, India. He is also a Member of Section Committee of BIS, ETD 44 for Safety of Machinery. He has undertaken several technical and academic visits to China, USA, Malaysia, Slovakia, Singapore, and France and Italy last year end, just before the outbreak of Corona pandemic, to ink MOUs with the Universities in Paris and Rome on behalf of  NITPY. He has been involved in the planning, development and management of NITT by being the member Board of Governor of NITT, Dean (Planning & Development), and Dean(Students’ Welfare). He has also served as the President of faculty Association of NITT for two years and Founder President of Joint Council for faculty of NITs.

To his credit he has two patents in the area of natural fiber composites. NIT Puducherry is in the process of equipping to its full potential under his leadership at an outlay of Rs 450 crores.
